Driven by Excellence, Powered by Philanthropy

World-class care backed by community-powered generosity

At Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Centers, excellence isn’t just a designation — it’s embedded in our culture and care. With back-to-back national recognitions and breakthrough advancements in care, our medical centers continue to lead the way in providing compassionate, leading-edge services to the South Bay. These milestones are made possible through the unwavering support of our donor community.

Setting a new standard in surgery

In April 2025, Providence Little Company of Mary became the first hospital in the South Bay to perform surgery using the da Vinci 5 robotic surgical system, the most advanced technology of its kind. This milestone was made possible thanks to philanthropic investments in surgical innovation, allowing our patients to benefit from minimally invasive procedures with quicker recovery, less pain and better outcomes.

Led by James Camel, M.D., chief of surgery and chair of the robotics program, the first procedures were performed successfully, marking a leap forward in the future of surgery. With features such as 3D high-resolution imaging, tremor reduction and first-of-its-kind force feedback technology, the da Vinci 5 is already changing lives.

Dr. Camel, who has completed nearly 1,500 robotic surgeries, describes the da Vinci 5 as “the most advanced robotic machine” he’s ever used. Media outlets, including KTLA, recognized this achievement, highlighting our medical centers as leaders in surgical advancement and patient-centered care.

A hospital recognized — again and again

This year, Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center Torrance earned an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from the Leapfrog Group for the second consecutive year, reflecting a relentless commitment to patient safety and care excellence. This honor affirms the hard work of caregivers across every department — at the bedside, behind the scenes and everywhere in between.

In addition, for the seventh consecutive year, the medical center was named one of the World’s Best Hospital’s by Newsweek. This distinction draws from global surveys of health care professionals, patient experience data and clinical performance metrics, placing our medical center among an elite group of institutions recognized for delivering consistent, high-quality care.
