A Gift of Appreciation

An avid gardener, business consultant and happy homebody, Jackie Nagel and her husband, Leon, enjoy an active and content life. All of that was disrupted in 2021 when she was beset by a strange set of symptoms. Her sudden loss of strength and inability to walk was diagnosed as Guillain-Barré syndrome, a rare disorder in which the body’s immune system attacks its nerves. Jackie began treatment at a well-known facility and transferred to Providence Little Company of Mary RehabCentre in San Pedro after sensing her recovery was stalled.

Compassion & Expertise Inspire New Donors

It was January 2019, however, that caused Steve and Amy to really think about the hospital and the central part it plays in the community. That month, Amy’s mother had shoulder replacement surgery, her father ended up having an unexpected surgery, and most worrisome of all, Amy needed an emergency appendectomy.

Thanks to the generosity of our philanthropic community, we completed the $4 million fundraising campaign and work is underway on an unprecedented renovation and expansion that will serve the San Pedro community for generations.
