Born and raised in a small Ohio farm community, Chuck Miller’s upbringing instilled a strong work ethic from an early age. In a town where most young people went into farming or factory work, Chuck was encouraged by his aunt, a teacher and his mentor, to pursue higher education.

It was at college in Bowling Green, Ohio, that fate intervened in the form of a blind date with his future wife, Betsy. Fresh off the farm, Chuck was starstruck by the beautiful New Yorker. Upon
graduation, the couple moved to California, settling in Palos Verdes in 1972.

After starting his career as a teacher, Chuck quickly ascended to roles as a counselor, assistant principal, and eventually principal by the age of 29. His trajectory took a turn when he was approached with an opportunity to buy into an event rental
business. By that time, he and Betsy were raising their two daughters, Molly and Tory, and Betsy was thriving as a real estate professional.

Chuck’s innate ability to recognize and nurture talent played a pivotal role in the company’s success, growing it into the largest of its kind in the U.S. From the Super Bowl to NASCAR races, Chuck traveled the country doing big events.

Called to serve
Chuck’s commitment to community service grew along with his business. Betsy, who passed in 2018, was a vibrant force in her own right. She shared his passion for giving back, and together they championed causes for which they were both deeply inspired, including supporting health and education in the community. She was instrumental in helping raise substantial funds for the highly rated Level III NICU at Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center along with the $5 million
Women & Children’s campaign, contributing to Providence’s vision of Health for a Better World.

Chuck’s involvement with Providence Little Company of Mary extends beyond philanthropy. While serving 12 years on the Foundation board, including distinguished service as chair, Chuck has also served 18 years on the community ministry board and will continue his service on the Providence South Division board where he brings extensive business and philanthropic leadership expertise to the health of the entire Southern
California region. As the Foundation prepares to celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2025, it is noteworthy that Chuck chaired the Providence Little Company of Mary Foundation Golf Classic
and helped build it to record levels for many years.

“I think about the Sisters and how we are carrying their mission forward,” he says. “There are a lot of hospitals that do wonderful things, but for me, the inspiration is the spiritual feeling and this
hospital’s real belief in helping those who are poor and vulnerable. I couldn’t be prouder of that.”

Retired since 2020, Chuck relishes time with his daughters and grandchildren. He lives an active life, balancing his love for golf and travel with his volunteerism. Chuck’s commitment to philanthropy and volunteer leadership has enriched the lives of many and inspired the next generation of changemakers.
